“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.” ~ John Jakes
Being yourself isnt a choice. Its a way of life. Period.
Being you is not always the easiest thing to be. Believe me I have had a hard time in the past just being me until I found out who I was.
Embracing your true self means to celebrate your individuality – learning to express yourself and be happy with who you are. For some it’s learning to love yourself, for others, it’s not hiding who you are or changing things about you to fit in. I fall in both those categories. And its amazing how everyday I learn something new about myself and strive to unleash it to the world…all because I am ready to do the inner work to be authentically ME.
I have become more ME in these past 10+ years of writing this blog than I could ever be.
I have become even more ME in the past 6 months as I have shed layers of my negative self.
I feel lighter ~ physically, emotionally and spiritually in tune with the Universe.
Below I share with you 5 Beautiful Ways to Embrace Your True Self! All tried and tested on yours truly 🙂
5 Beautiful Ways to Embrace Your True Self
1} Redefine Yourself:
“There are some things one can only achieve by a deliberate leap in the opposite direction.” ~Franz Kafka
Your primary goal should be to know, understand and accept yourself completely. Take out time to contemplate on your life’s choices. Try to think about what kind of things you would or wouldn’t like to do, and act accordingly. Finding out through trial and error helps more than you know. Work on accepting mistakes and choices you’ve made; they’re done and in the past, so there is no use crying over spilled milk.
2} Bye Bye Limiting Perceptions:
“There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.” ~ Aldous Huxley
It’s literally impossible to be yourself when you’re constantly wondering “Do they like me? Do they think I’m fat? Do they think I’m smart?” To be yourself, you’ve got to let go of these concerns and just let your behavior flow. What you think and know of yourself is important not what others think of you. Don’t wear different masks to please different people….you will ultimately lose yourself. Be you, be authentic without being rude and self-indulgent. Its your perception of you that matters first always, not anyone else’s.
3} Simply BE Honest and Open:
“Your conscience is the measure of the honesty of your selfishness. Listen to it carefully.” ~ Richard Bach
We’re all imperfect, evolving, learning human beings. If there are facets of yourself you are not comfortable with and you feel that you have to hide those parts of you, physically or emotionally, then you have to come to terms with that and learn to convert your so-called flaws into positive qualities. Be honest with yourself, but don’t beat yourself up; apply this philosophy to others, as well. There is a difference between being critical and being honest; learn to watch the way you say things to yourself and others when being honest.
4} Calm down and laugh a bit:
“Life goes by fast. Enjoy it. Calm down. It’s all funny. Next. Everyone gets so upset about the wrong things.” ~ Joan Rivers
Stop worrying about the worst, especially in social situations. So what if you fall flat on your face? Or have gum stuck on your hair? Learn to laugh at yourself both when it happens and afterwards. Turn it into a fun story that you can share with friends & family. It makes you feel more at ease with yourself. My funny quirk: I can leterally finish bars and bars of chocolate in one go. If you want to buy me over just give me chocolate 😉 Relax, breathe and enjoy each experience as it comes. Life can be fun if we let it.
5} Develop your authentic self:
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Develop, fine tune and express your authenticity. Whether it’s your sense of style, or even your manner of speaking. If your preferred way of doing something strays from the rest of the crowd, then be proud of it. Follow your own style. The common thing a lot of people do is copy others actions because it seems like the better route to fit in, but really its the best way to lose yourself in the crowd. Your power is in standing out with your true personality and not in trying to fit in.
Accept that sometimes you are really fun to be with and sometimes you just might want to be left alone. Its ok. Accept what your heart tells and do that. People might raise eyebrows, but as long as you can say “Hey, that’s just me being ME” (without being obnoxious) and leave it at that, people will ultimately respect you for it, and you’ll respect yourself.
Ulitmately: Believe in You
“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale
When we constantly try to be like someone else, how can we be happy? Be yourself and show the world you’re proud of the way you are! You deserve to be your own best friend, so start trying to figure out how you can do that. If you had to spend the day with yourself, which version of YOU would you spend it with? Work on this best version. Believe in this YOU and use that as your starting point. Lovingly accept yourself as you are now.
Being Authentic, Being Different, Being YOU is absolutely beautiful!
You must always, always, always remember that we are all born with unique DNA, unique finger-prints and unique faces. Why should our personality then be anything else?
“All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own.” ~Goethe
Listen to YOUR heart. Its your best guide and confidant. Your heart is unique & one of a kind. It will help you sense how to be the best you at all times, no matter what. Just relax and let your heart do its job.
You alone have the power to get over your fears, your insecurities, your addictions, your negativity. People can help, people can guide, but the ultimate action and change has to come from you alone.
You just need to start believing in yourself and the untapped power that exists in you right NOW!
