Teams work best when people feel calm, connected and valued. Mindfulness won’t solve every workplace problem, but bringing a little more presence and care into a team can make the shared day feel better.

Here are five gentle ways to support your team with mindfulness.

1. Acknowledge pressure

Busy weeks happen. Naming the pressure, rather than pretending everything is fine, can help people feel understood. A simple “This is a busy week; let’s look after each other” goes a long way.

2. Start meetings with a pause

Begin with a moment of quiet: one breath, or a minute to settle. This can help everyone arrive and focus.

3. Encourage movement

Long hours at a desk can leave people tense and tired. Encourage short breaks to stretch, walk or step outside.

4. Listen fully

When someone speaks, give them your full attention. Feeling heard is one of the most powerful motivators there is.

5. Notice each other

Take time to notice how colleagues are doing, and offer kindness and appreciation. Small gestures build trust and connection.

A team is made of people

Mindfulness at work isn’t a tool for getting more output from people. It’s about creating a place where people can do good work and feel cared for.

How little is enough

At your next team meeting, begin with one shared breath, or simply ask how everyone is doing and listen.
