Most of us find change difficult. Growing older, changing jobs, moving away from home: even when change is welcome, it can feel unsettling. Yet change and purpose are often closely connected.
Change is part of life
Nothing stays the same forever. Seasons change, people grow and circumstances shift. Resisting change is natural, but it can also keep us stuck in situations that no longer fit.
Being open to change doesn’t mean chasing every new thing. It means staying curious about where life might lead.
How change can reveal purpose
It shows you what matters. When life shifts, you often see more clearly what you value.
It opens new paths. A change you didn’t plan can lead to people, places and opportunities you’d never have found otherwise.
It invites growth. Stepping into the unknown helps you discover strengths and interests you didn’t know you had.
Moving forward, not running away
Not every change brings us closer to purpose. Sometimes we move on to escape discomfort rather than to grow. It can help to ask: Am I moving towards something meaningful, or away from something hard?
Both can be valid. But knowing the difference can help you choose wisely.
Letting go gently
Making space for something new often means loosening your grip on something old: a role, a routine or an idea of who you should be. This can be sad, and it’s okay to grieve what you’re leaving behind.
How little is enough
Think of a change you’re facing, or one you’ve been through. Ask yourself, What might this be showing me about what matters? Write down whatever comes.
