Spirituality can become another way of trying to look good. It’s easy to start wearing spiritual labels like a badge, or to feel more “evolved” than others. Noticing this is a healthy part of any path.

Seeking without end

Wanting to grow is natural. But always seeking, never resting, can become its own trap. Peace is often found in the present moment.

Enlightenment as a word

The Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki is often quoted as saying, “Strictly speaking, there are no enlightened people, there is only enlightened activity.” It’s a reminder that how we act matters more than labels.

Labels can separate

Calling ourselves “awakened”, “old souls” or “lightworkers” can sometimes set us apart from others. Labels can be helpful, but they can also become a barrier.

Service and boundaries

Helping others is a beautiful expression of spirituality. So is caring for yourself and setting healthy limits.

Humility

A spiritual life tends to make people kinder and humbler, not more superior.
