Numerology is an old practice that gives meaning to numbers. One popular idea is the “life path number”, calculated from your birth date. Numerology isn’t backed by science, but many people enjoy it as a playful way to reflect on their personality and goals.
How to find your life path number
Add the digits of your birth date together until you reach a single digit. For example, 14 March 1990: 1 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 27, then 2 + 7 = 9.
What the numbers are said to mean
- 1: independent and driven.
- 2: gentle and cooperative.
- 3: creative and expressive.
- 4: practical and steady.
- 5: adventurous and curious.
- 6: caring and responsible.
- 7: thoughtful and reflective.
- 8: ambitious and organised.
- 9: compassionate and idealistic.
Use it lightly
You are much more than a number. If a description resonates, it might prompt some reflection. If it doesn’t, that’s fine too. Your choices, values and experiences shape who you are.
A reflection prompt
Whatever your number, you might ask yourself: Which of these qualities would I like to grow?
