Food on this site is about how you meet your body: colour on the plate, when you eat, water when you’re thirsty, and enough attention to really taste the meal. My hope is that you’ll leave with one simple idea for your next plate.
There are no diet tribes here and no detox products, just ordinary food enjoyed with a little more attention, written by someone with nutrition training who loves a colourful plate. Because everything here is written for many readers at once, it’s meant to sit alongside the guidance of the people who know your health best.
New here? Start here offers four gentle steps, and you can join the weekly practice email there too. Two gentle guides and a free gift of small calming pauses are on Guides.
What you’ll find here
- Eating by colour: a rainbow plate as a noticing ritual.
- Mindful eating, drinking when you’re thirsty, simple food swaps and a wide variety of whole foods.
- Time-restricted eating as a gentle beginner experiment, starting with 12:12, and who may prefer to skip it.
- Everyday digestion habits: plants, fibre, fermented foods, sleep and water, looked after as a whole.
Free in this room: the idea of food as a daily ritual, the colour map, and one plate example.
If you’d like to go further: a gentle seven-day food ritual on Guides, with a simple recipe for each colour. The free ideas here will always stay free.
Attention at the table also lives in Wellness. Eating by colour also lives in Metaphysics.
One plate idea
Put two colours on your next plate. A green leaf and something orange is enough. Drink water when you feel thirsty, rather than chasing a chart. That’s step 2 of Start here, and it’s a lovely thing to practise this week even if you do nothing else.
The seven-centre colour map (root vegetables, orange fruit, whole grains, greens, blueberries, nuts and seeds, and a lighter evening meal) is a ritual for variety. Its gift is a more colourful, more interesting plate, and a reason to slow down and notice it.
Cornerstone reading
Eleven essays to begin with. Each note tells you what the piece can offer you in this room.
- Chakra foods as a colour ritual: a rainbow plate as a noticing practice. Also in Metaphysics.
- A 12:12 overnight pause, if fasting suits you: start small, drink water, and eat real meals in your window. If you’re pregnant, live with diabetes, have a history of eating difficulties or take medicine that needs food, this one may not be for you, and it’s perfectly fine to let it pass. Gentle windows are the way here.
- How to start eating mindfully: slowing down and really tasting the meal.
- Drink when you are thirsty: trusting your thirst instead of a rigid chart. Also in Wellness.
- Fresh, colourful plants: vitality as colour and freshness on the plate.
- How you eat: the companion piece: attention at the table, with no foods ranked as good or bad.
- Twenty ordinary food swaps: small swaps you can try this week.
- Variety beats a superfood: many foods enjoyed together rather than one worshipped ingredient. No imported superfoods required.
- Five things before you change how you eat: go slowly, skip the crash diet, and keep a familiar meal you love.
- A pause before you eat: a moment of thanks as a way of paying attention.
- Everyday habits that support digestion: sleep, water, plants, less ultra-processed sugar, and an optional twelve-hour overnight pause.
A place to start today: two colours on your next plate, water when you’re thirsty, and one meal without a screen.
A few questions
Can eating a colour for each centre heal an illness? The colour map is a joyful way to build a varied plate rather than a treatment. If you live with a health condition, the people who know your health are your best guides.
Should I start with a long fast? No. If fasting suits you at all, begin gently with 12:12. Some people are better off skipping it entirely, and that’s a kind choice too.
Can I get a personal meal plan here? The ideas here are general and written for everyone, so there are no personal meal plans. A registered dietitian can help you build one that fits your life.
Is there a programme to join? No. Read, take one idea, and try it at your next meal.
