Inner maps: chakras, awakening, intuition

On this site, metaphysics is a set of maps people use to talk about the inner life: energy centres, stages of unfolding, levels of intuition. A good map helps you find your bearings. You don’t have to join anything or believe anything to use one, and nobody on the path is ahead of anyone else.

My hope is that you’ll leave able to name one map, and one honest question it helps you sit with. You can disagree with a map and still find it useful.

New here? Start here offers four gentle steps, and you can join the weekly practice email there too. If you’re in the middle of a big inner shift, Guides has a gentle 30-day journal for finding your way through change.

What you’ll find here

  • A chakra primer: seven centres as a symbolic map of safety, creativity, agency, care, voice, insight and meaning.
  • Spiritual unfolding as one spiral of nine movements, rather than a ladder or a test. An eleven-stage essay in the archive adds colour to that same spiral.
  • Intuition as a set of skills: gut, heart, vision and belonging.
  • How different traditions describe these ideas, and how you might use them as journal prompts.
  • Eating by colour, shared with Food as a gentle noticing practice.

Daily practices live in Wellness. How change feels in the middle lives in Transformation, which is the I shed old form part of this spiral (stage 6).

How to hold these maps

  • Lightly. These are maps of meaning, offered as language for experience rather than as measurements.
  • Without ranking. You can’t fail a spiral. You’ll loop back, and you may sit in more than one place at once. That’s completely normal.
  • In your own way. There’s no score and no level to reach.
  • Close to home. This room is about the quiet inner work you can do in daily life, so you won’t find plant medicines, ceremonies or initiations here.

The unfolding spiral (one map)

The archive holds two long essays about similar terrain: nine stages of self-realization, and eleven stages of awakening. Rather than set them against each other, this room offers one gentle map: an unfolding spiral.

It isn’t a straight line, a test or a ranking. It’s simply a way to recognise where you are.

You don’t have to pick a number. If you’d like to explore the texture of I shed old form, you’ll find it in Transformation.

A place to start today: read the list of seven centres once, notice which theme feels loudest, and write three lines about it. Be curious and kind with whatever you find.

Cornerstone reading

Ten essays to begin with. Each note tells you what the piece can offer you in this room.

  1. Seven centres, seven themes: a beginner’s map from safety through to meaning, with the place and theme of each centre.
  2. Nine movements of unfolding: the heart of this room. A spiral you move through at your own pace.
  3. Eleven stages as colour: questioning, purpose, cleansing, acceptance and insight, woven into the same spiral.
  4. Four levels of intuition: gut, heart, vision and belonging as an inner map. The same essay appears as daily noticing in Wellness.
  5. Signs you may be unfolding: questioning old scripts, feeling misunderstood, and remembering that pace is not a contest.
  6. Signs you may be living from centre: an honest yes and no, responsibility, and the company you keep.
  7. Nine inner shifts people report: inner experiences many people share. The old title sounded exclusive, but these experiences belong to everyone.
  8. Trust as a noticing practice: surrender as gentle attention.
  9. Chakra foods as a colour ritual: a rainbow plate as a noticing practice. Also in Food.
  10. The person already at the desk is enough: a true-self essay that invites you home rather than sending you off to chase five new identities.

A few questions

Do I have to believe in chakras? No. If the language of energy isn’t yours, use the seven themes as journal prompts.

Which map does this room use? One spiral of nine movements. The eleven-stage essay adds colour to it.

Is unfolding a straight line? No. You’ll loop back, and sitting in more than one place at once is perfectly normal.

Is there a programme to join? No. Read, take one thing, and let it keep you company.

If inner change ever feels like more than you can carry, please reach out to someone you trust. You don’t have to walk it alone.
